Our Staff
Marilyn Escoto - Pastor/Director
Has been employed at Elmhurst Learning Center since 1988. In 1988 she began as Pre-K teacher, in 1994 Assistant Director, in 1996 the Director, then in 2003 was ordained to be the school's Pastor. Marilyn's life scripture is "With God all Things are Possible." (Matthew 19:26) This is the message that Marilyn wants the children, staff, and families to walk away with. That they will know that in their lives nothing absolutely nothing is impossibe with God on their side. Every child is unique and has a divine purpose and destiny in this world. And with God that destiny will come to fruition.
Cheryl Roman - Assistant Director
Has been on staff since 2002 and worked in a position we call a floater - helping everywhere needed, the kitchen, the office, and classrooms. Shortly after she became the Assistant Director having had extensive training in Early Childhood Development. It is plain to see that Cheryl has a love for children and families. Her heart is to see children come to know who Jesus is and how much He loves them. She is an extremely humble hard worker and will do everything in her power to bless the children and the school.
Kathy Litteral - Extended Care Coordinator Ms. Kathy has been employed here at Elmhurst Learning Center since 1986. Kathy Loves motivating children to try new tasks. She has a wealth of experience that she loves to share with the staff. Kathy is extremely creative and not only creates projects for the children to experience, but also has a vision for creatiing special events and festive days, such as Western Day, Crazy Hair Day, Parachute Day and many more.
Jamila-Mosi Green - 2nd & 3rd Grade Teacher
Ms. Jamila-Mosi has been employed here at Elmhurst Learning Center since 2005. Jamila is a graduate of San Fransico State and has found a love for teaching. Jamila loves motivaing children to be all they can be. She begins her day with drills that enhance spelling, reading and math. She works one on one at each child's level and teaches powerful bible lessons that motivate loving God, honesty, kindness, and excellent character.
Christina Leon - 1st Grade Teacher
Ms. Christina is our newest teacher coming to us from Community Christian School where she taught Kindergarten and worked for over . She is also our P.E. teacher. She has a love and passion to teach making sure that no child is left behind. Our smaller class size, enables Miss Christina to spend quality time with each student making sure they understand the concepts being taught.
Pamela Flores - Kindergarten Teacher
Ms. Pam has been a teacher here as Elmhurst since 1996. She taught in our preschool for years and decided she needed to do something more. She became our Kindergarten teacher and for the last 4 years she has done and outstanding job. Our kindergarten class has scored in the 90% percentile nationwide. We are members of ACSI and use Abeka and ACSI curriculum.
Olivia Romero - Kindergarten Extended Care Teacher
Employed at Elmhurst since January of 1996. During Ms. Olivia's 14 years of service here she has worked with children from age 2 to age 11. She currently works in the afternoons with our Kindergarten children strengthening their academic skills with additional activities to enhance our kindergarten program. Because she is bilingual she enjoys teaching the children beginning Spanish.
Denise Romero-Llamas Volunteer Aide Denise is our preschool volunteer. She is an excellent teacher's aide who has a natural gift in working with children. She is loved by the children and she is an asset to our school. Having an extra set of eyes and hands to care for our children is a blessing.
Benita Negosa - Excel Preschool Teacher
Ms. Benita has been teaching for over 40 years. She looks and acts as young as when she first began. She has been employed here at elmhurst for over 12 years and has worked with our 4/5 years olds. For the last few years Ms. Benita has been teaching Excel/Pre-Kindergarten. This year she has teamed up with Ms. Pam and has worked with our kindergarten children. We currently created a new classroom that has our younger kindergarten children and our advanced Pre-K children - which we call Kindergarten B. Ms. Benita is excited with her class and enjoys every child.
Phyllis Alvarez - Preschool Teacher
Ms. Phyllis has been teaching in our center since 2004. She is an energetic fun teacher who teaches our Teddy Bear class. This class is a combination of children from 2 to 4 years old. She teaches the 3 and 4 year olds, while her co-teacher teaches the 2 and 3 year olds. Together they implement amazing activities geared to enhance the childrens imaginations and develop good self esteem while allowing the children to learn the academic skills at their own pace. Mis Phyllis is from Beliz and also teaches some of her cultural songs and dances to the children.
Eva Lara - Preschool Teacher
Ms Eva has been serving in our enter for over 12 years. She began as a kitchen assistant and worked her way to head cook while attending college on the weekends and evenings. She then became an assistant teacher and is now a "teacher," who co-teaches with, Ms Phyllis. She is a warm and loving teacher who challenges our 2 to 3 year olds to learn how to share, use their words, play with one another, while teaching them to recognize their names, colors, shapes, letters, and even begin to write their names. Together Ms. Eva and Ms Phyllis are an amazing team.
